Our company is located in Istria between the bay of Dajla and Savudrija, where the history of the olive tree has marked the territory since ancient Roman times.
Following a prolonged period of inactivity due to frosts and dramatic historical events, there has been a renewed rise in olive farming also thanks to Mate Vekić who, at the end of the last century, planted 27,500 olive trees.
It was his love for the land, combined with his exceptional temperament, that led Mate Vekić at the age of 75, to devote himself to agriculture. Mate was fascinated by the civilization of oil and the richness of the olive plant in all its guises and decided to create an olive grove in his beloved Istria as well, planting the Frantoio, Leccino and Pendolino varieties, the only ones available in large quantities at the time. In more recent times, given the significant recovery of areas dedicated to olive cultivation, Mate turned his attention to ancient native varieties such as Busa (Buža), Bianchera (Istarska Bjelica) and Carbonazza (Karbonaca) with the aim of enhancing them.
At our company in Zambratija, our philosophy is based on a deep respect towards nature and the environment. We consciously strive to obtain a perfect balance between the requirements of the plants and the potential of the terrain in order to produce only the highest quality extra virgin olive oil.
Our mill is equipped with state-of-the-art systems, allowing the quality of the oil processed by the trees and accumulated by the olives to remain unaltered. The olives, harvested during the day, are turned into oil by the evening.
